WEEK 1 OF 8
Focused vs. Diffuse Thinking — How Your Brain Actually Learns
Forget „visual” or „auditory” learners — that idea has been disproven by modern cognitive science. A useful way to think about learning is to alternate focused attention with periods of rest, when your mind is free to make connections.
After 20 years of teaching adults, the students who progress fastest aren’t the ones who grind for hours — they’re the ones who alternate: focused study, then a real break (a walk, a shower, doing the dishes) where the brain consolidates what it just learned.
Today’s exercise
Study one thing for 15 focused minutes (phone away, one task only). Then take a genuine 10-minute break with no screens — walk, stretch, make tea. Notice what you remember better an hour later: the studying, or the studying-plus-break.
P.S. My English Start series is built around this rhythm — short focused lessons, never long grinding chapters. Zobacz →
