WEEK 5 OF 8
Memory — Active Recall Beats Re-Reading
Re-reading your notes feels productive but barely works — your brain recognizes the words without actually retrieving them. Active recall means closing the book and forcing your brain to pull the answer out from scratch. That effort is what builds the memory.
Combine it with spacing: for example, test yourself today, again in 2 days, then again several days later. The exact gap matters less than the fact that you’re spacing it out.
Today’s exercise
Take 5 words or facts you learned this week. Close the book. Write down what you remember from memory alone — don’t peek first, check after. Repeat in a couple of days.
P.S. Every level in my series recycles vocabulary from earlier chapters — that spacing is built into the page order, not left to chance. Zobacz →
